Shipping, arbitration and Russia are the threads through the career of Axel Boës. Axel studied law in Mainz, Chambéry (France) and Hamburg and received a doctor’s degree from the university of Hamburg, the topic of his thesis being the law on limited liability companies in Russia.
Axel started his career in a shipping boutique firm in Hamburg and before joining KDB.legal Koch Boës, Hamburg as a partner in 2018, he worked as Of Counsel in an international lawfirm.
Axel has extensive experience in complex litigation and arbitration matters, particularly in international transportation and maritime law. Axel’s clients include German and foreign insurance companies, shipping companies and ship owners which he regularly represents in disputes before state courts and in arbitration matters. A main aspect of his work is representing clients in dispute matters related to Russia and advising Russian-speaking clients. Axel has sat as an arbitrator under the rules of DIS, GMAA, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Riga District Court of Arbitration and acted as counsel in arbitration under the rules of LMAA, ICC and Stockholm Chamber of Commerce as well.
Axel is the co-chairman of the German-Russian law association and a member of GMAA, DVIS and DFJV.
